World Cycle 2015: Malaysia
In September 2014 I will be leaving my job of 16 years at Philips to follow my dream. The last 21 years I have lived in Europe – in the Netherlands and Germany, and now it is time to go home. Home to Australia. In Europe I have learnt to love cycling. What better way to finish the European chapter of my life and enter the next than by cycling home?
After cycling through Europe to Istanbul in the last part of 2014, and then through Asia in 2015, I will enter Laos from China, and pass into Thailand from Cambodia. I plan to avoid Bangkok (entering and exiting it with the train), and make my way down the peninsula to Malaysia. I currently have my entry point into Malaysia near Wang Prajang, which is apparently a small border crossing in a park. I would then like to cycle down the middle of the Malaysian peninsula through the mountains. I heard that this is a lovely route. I hope that I am not getting too near the problematic regions near the border with Thailand. I plan to either catch the boat to Sumatra from Malacca, or, to pass through Singapore before passing to Sumatra (via Batam).
Here is my planned route through Malaysia. All suggestions welcome.
