Here is a list of links of material that I have used in my bike trip planning, and people that have helped me. Thank you to you all!
Route planning sites
- Waymarked trails. Lots of official and semi-official bike routes in Europe. Very helpful.
- Eurovelo route database. Eurovelo is a network of bike routes planned throughout Europe. Some of the routes are being built and signposted as we speak. Some of the routes have gpx files available (especially in Finland). A useful resource, even if most of the routes have no detailed information yet.
- Fietsenroutenplanner. A great site that helps to plan cycling trips in the Netherlands following the local bike node network.

People / organizations
- Couchsurfing. People offer a place to stay for the night. A great way to meet interesting people, and to find a place to stay.
- Warmshowers. Similar to couchsurfing bit especially for cyclists.
- wereldfietser.nl. Lots of information on world cycling. Also great bike maintenance courses.
- Expedition Earth. Mehamn, Nordkyn Peninsula. Far north of Norway. I met Ruan there on my last trip to the far north. Back then, and all through the year he has been a great help in planning my trip. Thanks Ruan!

Useful Information Sites
- thelandofthesnows.com. A lot os valuable, up-to-date information on Tibet.
- caravanistan.com. An excellent site with lots of up-to-date information on travelling in central Asia. (Lots of info on border crossings, visa applications and the like.)
- parmirs.org. Lots of information on the Pamir Highway in Tajikistan.

- crazyguyonabike.com. A great cycling resource with lots of blogs from cycling tours all across the world.
- Tim goes for a bike ride. An inspiration for me when I was toying with the idea of my world tour.
- A ride from Kashgar to Lhasa. Motivating me to cycle the ‘southern route’ in Tibet.
- World cycling tour. The blog that planted the seed of my world bike trip. Thanks Rebecca and Ryan!
- twistingspokes.com. I met Martin and Susanne in Rotterdam before they left on their world bike trip. We exchanged notes – and excitement.
- slothsonwheels. From Tromsø to Tokyo.
- janapar.com. A feature film made on a world cycler.
- Escaper Travels. I met Bernadette at a cycling and walking fair in Amsterdam. We spent hours looking at maps and telling stories. Wonderful!
- englandtoindia. An epic trip across the Tibetan Plataeu.
- expeditionwhynot. I met Daan Steller at the cycling and walking fair in Amsterdam. He is cycling to raise money for an orphanage in Bihar, India. He left on April 5 2014. Good luck!
- heravanwillick.wordpress.com. I met Hera online, and then met her live a few times before she left on her big trip on April 5 2014. All the best!
- Gerd Müller. Also en route to Australia.. 🙂
- pushbikegirl.com. Cycling from Germany to Australia. It was good reading her blog, and experiencing the trip with her.
- mcneilsonwheels.com. A similar route to mine, and an amazing video of their cycle along the Pamir Highway!
- travellingtwo.com. A wealth of information on world cycling including lots of suggested tours.
- The Road from Karakol. An amazing video of a cycling/climbing adventure in Tajikistan.
- Cycle Trekkers. Adventures around the world on two wheels. They also have a cycling and beer drinking site 🙂 Beercycle Touring: Discovering cycle friendly breweries and tasting different beers around the world, by bicycle!

Thanks for the links. I had not seen these blogs. Really cool. It looks like Gerd made it through Burma on the bike. I hope I am able to cross Burma and cycle to north-eastern India and Bangladesh!!
Heike, indeed, bridged the winter in Oman. My winter will be a bit different – learning Chinese in Taipei.. 🙂
