World Cycle 2015: Nepal
In September 2014 I will be leaving my job of 16 years at Philips to follow my dream. The last 21 years I have lived in Europe – in the Netherlands and Germany, and now it is time to go home. Home to Australia. In Europe I have learnt to love cycling. What better way to finish the European chapter of my life and enter the next than by cycling home?
After cycling through Europe to Istanbul in the last part of 2014, I will stop for a few months (waiting for the winter to pass) before continuing in February/March 2015. My route will then pass through Turkey, Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan (along the Pamir Highway) and then a long stretch in China – mostly on the Tibetan plateau. Here is my planned route in Nepal.
In China, there are several options I am considering – either cycling into Nepal from Tibet or cycling out of Tibet and leaving China in Yunnan province. In any case, I would like to cycle in Nepal and Bangladesh, and, if I don’t cycle into Nepal directly from Tibet, I will fly into Kathmandu to do a loop in Nepal, North-East India and Bangladesh before flying out again.
Any tips for my planned route in Nepal are welcome!
