World Cycle 2014: Switzerland
In September 2014 I will be leaving my job of 16 years at Philips to follow my dream. The last 21 years I have lived in Europe – in the Netherlands and Germany, and now it is time to go home. Home to Australia. In Europe I have learnt to love cycling. What better way to finish the European chapter of my life and enter the next than by cycling home?
After passing through Germany, I will be crossing the Alps in Switzerland with a brief sojourn in Lichtenstein and Austria. Then down through the north of Italy to the Po Plains. Here is my planned route through Switzerland, Austria and Lichtenstein.
I cycled across the alps in 2001 on my way from Aachen (Germany) to Sicily. That time I crossed the Gottard Pass. This time, I would like to take a different route across some nice passes. I would quite like to pass through Lichtenstein. Finally I would like to end up in Venezia in Italy, so I am considering a route through Bolzano, and then south to Venezia.
Thanks to Luc Vercauteren (who is cycling from Maastricht in Holland to Jakarta in Indonesia) for the tip of cycling over the Stelvio pass.
I have used waymarkedtrails a lot – there are lots of cycling routes there. Some of the routes are Swiss Veloland routes.
Do you think this is a good route through Switzerland? All comments/recommendations are welcome!
