The scenery has changed. One side of Parkes it was still rolling hills, and the other, the scenery became flat, and although it had a rain-induced covering of purple, it felt harsher. I am approaching the outback.

Flat and purple tinged
Parkes is famous for its radio telescope that played a part in the 1969 lunar landing and starred in the 2000 film ‘The Dish’. I didn’t go there – it was an hour’s cycle off my route. Parkes is also famous for its Elvis Presley festival. I passed something that was probably part of that – Elvis and a rusty car in the purple field.

I am staying at a pretty much abandoned town – Bogan Gate. At the end of the Bogan Way, this old railway town had a pub and cafe that have both closed due to COVID. I called before I left Parkes and they left a door to the hotel open. ‘Leave the money on the table before you go.’ The streets of this town are eerily empty.

I cooked some spaghetti sitting out on the verandah out the back. The dog and the cat watched on hungrily.

Bogan Gate. I love the name of it! I might have to pay it a visit. Not too much of a detour on the way to Ungarie.
You’ll need to go the Bogan Way. 🙂
😃
Bogangate sounds a bit like a town called Woodenbong we stayed in in Queensland. So quite, looks like you are the only one anywhere around.
They’re weren’t many people. I was one person very briefly. A ghost town.
Really enjoy your travels , taking us to places we haven/t been and hope to get there sometime.. Take care.
Thanks Bev. Great to hear from you. 🙂
Geniet ervan,
Justin
Hoi Justin.
So good to see you’re eating healthily. …. ?? And I love the idea of Bogan Gate.
Reached along the Bogan Way.
Looks awfully quiet out there… I love those purple wildflowers – so beautiful.
I think the desert may well be a carpet of flowers. It’s been raining a lot.
A Super Bloom (without the crowds)!
‘Leave the money on the table before you go.’ …leaving the door open for you…empty streets, …that says it all about the vibe of the place. Travel safe. Matt B
Thanks Matt. It was a pretty sleepy place. 🙂
