‘Get off the f*ing road!’
I was doing nothing wrong, cycling on a road that I was allowed to. This agro between cyclists and motorists in Australia is such a shame. Australia is the only country where I’ve seen it. Anyway, after this unpleasant start, I have had a lovely welcome to Canberra.

Today’s cycling was uneventful, scaling each 5km climb and descending the other side before starting on the next climb. I did a little circuit of parliament house before spending the rest of the afternoon with family. Nice to catch up with them!

Fijne tijd in Canberra en veel plezier met je familie!

  2. Yes, it seems that Australia is about the only country where motorists hate cyclists with such passion. It’s really sad.

Here in the USA we have our share of angry, right-wing, bicycle-hating, wacko drivers. Use extreme caution and a rear-view mirror.

  4. Eliza Waters says:

A shame, indeed. What a pity folks can’t open up. You need a ‘Share the Road’ campaign.

  5. If it it’s any consolation “cyclist v cars” rages in the UK. Continental Europe is much better (except we’ll probably need a visa to cycle there soon!)

Ironic isn’t it. That driver would probably be someone who tells you it’s dangerous to travel the world by bicycle because there’s so much terrorism or dodgy people yet he is the real danger / discomfort. 🙂
